Motorcycle customization is becoming a trend nowadays. In fact some motorcycle companies are releasing new models that look classic — designed to mimic the 60’s and 70’s motorcycle lineups but equipped with new and more advance technologies.
Many manufacturers are biting on this trend right now like how smaller, retro styled models suddenly emerged. Honda released a new CB150 ExMotion as a successor of the Streetfire but with the vintage touch. Yamaha’s new XSR 155 is new to the game and it’s carrying the “Retro” on its name. These are just some of the retro styled bike that are being released to the market, not to mention the big names in motorcycle industry.
KTM on the other hand, has not released a modern classic design and it doesn’t look like they are planning to release one in the near future. KTM bikes are very rarely customized to look like classic bikes maybe because of various reason. KTM’s designs are known to be aggressive and sporty looking to represent their tagline - “Ready To Race” and their bike classes almost covers all kind except the modern classic or retro style.
Jac Garcia has been riding motorcycles fo quite a while now and his latest bike is a KTM Duke 200 that he’s using for almost five years already. With his curiosity on bike customization and on the Modern Classic trend, he’s been wanting to have a new bike on the kind but he can’t let go of his beloved bike. He started to gather information, and answers to his questions regarding the process through his builder who is an expert mechanic of several kind of engines, KTM being one of them.
Came 2019, Jac finally decided to realize his dream bike in the likeness of Ducati Icon Scrambler and Triumph Bonneville by using his Duke as a base bike and build on it instead of buying a new motorcycle. He was being smart and practical given that he was on a tighter budget and buying either of his dream bike may still be a long shot right at that moment. He then entrusted the bike to the skillful hands of sir Bob of Pit Sr motoshop for the makeover.
“As bikes get older every year, different maintenance issue emerge, and given that the bike i’ve been imagining to have is still a long shot with the budget i have, i can’t help but ask my builder if i’m making a right decision ‘cause my builder, sir Bob, is also a big fan and owner of KTM Duke. It was a good advice from him that instead of upgrading to some fresh release modern classic bike, why not make your older one same? and thats how it basically started. — Jac Garcia”
