While the world is in Community quarantine, movement of traffic is greatly reduced due to ordinances enforced across cities, It’s easy for us to forgot things like the health of our motorcycles. Given the hot weather that we are experiencing this summer, we may need some refreshment from time to time like our motorcycles need reconditioning. ECQ also has caused us to not use our bikes because of the danger of the pandemic hence our motorcycles are stuck from doing its daily routine. here are some tips on how you take care of your motorcycle in this situation.
1. Check for leakage
It is always a good idea to check for any fluid or oil leakage to prevent parts of your motorcycle that need lubrication from drying up. You may want to check on the the drain plug, shifter and gaskets for possible oil leakage.
2. Keep Oil, Fluid, Fuel, and Coolant Levels within the recommended.
Liquid components of your bike is its life blood that is why you need to keep these components sufficient all the time. Oil keeps your engine and transmission gears smooth when they rotate and keeps rust build up inside these systems from happening. Fluid are usually for brake systems and anything that is a hydraulic uses fluid to work. Coolant is very essential as it keeps the engine cool and prevents it from overheating. Fuel is usually the first to run out especially when the gas tank has leak which can result to rust build up inside your gas tank
3. Keep tire pressure below manufacturer’s recommended level.

Yes it is best to follow recommendations from your manufacturer but when it is too hot we might need to not follow those rules. Tires are expandable and are designed to keep air pressure inside and it also is the first component to wear out, and with worn out tire, the chance for an accident is high. Air expands when it is heated that is why it is advisable to keep your bike’s tires pressure a little bit lower than usual to avoid possible explosion. Tires are not cheap people!
4. Don’t leave your bike under the sun
Leaving your your bike under the sun for extensive amount of time can be a start of something bad. Paint however high its quality may still be prone to fading and deterioration if exposed to high temperature . Plastics becomes brittle and will start to crack and we all know that plastic blemishes are hard to fix unless you cover it with paint. Rubber parts of your motorcycle will start to harden and eventually become brittle which means bad things are about to happen.
5. Don’t let your bike’s chain dry up
Unlike belt driven and shaft driven bikes, chain driven are prone to rust build up when dried up and exposed to humid air. Apply chain lubes regularly and rotate the rear wheel so that all parts of the chain absorb sufficient lubrication.
6. Start Engine at least twice a week
Keeping your bike’s engine running regularly will keep your bike at a healthy condition. When the engine is running, accumulated gear oil at the bottom circulates to all parts of the engine and transmission. Coolant need to circulate too to keep the lines wet. Always remember to keep the engine running until your cooling fan starts to rotate at least twice to make sure the the whole system is running. Stuck cooling fan is a big problem because without its function, the engine will overheat when you use it again.
